Technical Sales Advisor

Technical Sales Advisor
Permanent
Monday – Friday – 7.00am – 4:30pm

Stoke on Trent
£28,000 – £35,000

We’re working with an established engineering and manufacturing business specialising in bespoke industrial equipment, supplying customers across sectors including aerospace, automotive and advanced manufacturing.

They’re looking for a Technical Sales Support Advisor to join their team, supporting the sales process from initial customer enquiry through to quotation, costing and order progression.

This is a role for someone who enjoys the commercial and technical detail behind a project. You’ll work closely with customers, the sales team and engineering colleagues to understand requirements, prepare accurate quotations, compile bills of materials (BOMs) and ensure costs and specifications are right before proposals reach the customer.

You’ll play an important part in maintaining strong client relationships, keeping opportunities moving and helping ensure every quotation reflects what the customer needs and what the business can deliver.

The role

This is a hands-on, commercially focused position combining technical sales support, customer relationship management, sales, quotation preparation and costing.

Working alongside the wider sales and engineering teams, your responsibilities will include:

  • Quotation preparation: Producing accurate, detailed quotations based on customer specifications, technical requirements and project information.
  • BOMs and materials: Preparing and maintaining bills of materials, identifying required components and materials, and ensuring relevant information is captured correctly.
  • Costings and pricing: Gathering material and component costs, supporting calculations and ensuring quotations are commercially accurate.
  • Technical sales support: Working with engineering colleagues to clarify specifications, understand project requirements and ensure proposed solutions meet the customer’s needs.
  • Customer relationships: Acting as a key point of contact for customers, responding to enquiries, providing updates and building strong, long-term working relationships.
  • Enquiry management: Reviewing incoming enquiries, gathering missing information and ensuring requirements are understood before quotations are prepared.
  • Quotation follow-up: Liaising with customers regarding outstanding quotations, answering queries and helping progress opportunities towards an order.
  • Order and project coordination: Supporting the transition from quotation to order, ensuring relevant information is accurate and communicated clearly to the teams involved.
  • Ongoing customer support: Assisting with repeat business, amendments to existing requirements and customer queries as projects develop.
  • Systems and documentation: Maintaining accurate records, quotation information, material costs and customer details.

As the products are bespoke, no two enquiries will necessarily be the same. You’ll need to understand the detail, ask the right questions and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure each proposal is technically appropriate and commercially viable.

What we’re looking for

We’re interested in someone who understands that great technical sales support is about much more than producing a quote. It’s about accuracy, communication, commercial awareness and making sure the details add up.

Ideally, you’ll have experience in a technical sales support, internal sales, estimating, sales administration or quotation-focused role within an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience preparing quotations, estimates or customer proposals.
  • Strong numerical skills and an understanding of materials, component costs and pricing.
  • The ability to interpret technical information, specifications or customer requirements.
  • An understanding of bills of materials (BOMs), material requirements or product costing would be advantageous.
  • Confidence communicating with customers and building professional relationships.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly when working with figures, specifications and documentation.
  • A methodical, organised approach, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise with both commercial and technical colleagues.
  • A proactive mindset, taking ownership of enquiries and following things through.
  • Competence using Microsoft Office and business systems, with experience of CRM, ERP or quotation software beneficial.

You don’t necessarily need to be an engineer. What’s important is having the right combination of commercial awareness, numerical ability, customer service and an appetite to understand technical products and processes.

What’s in it for you?

  • £28,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Monday–Friday working hours, 7.00am–4.30pm.
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
  • Company pension.
  • Product and technical training.
  • The opportunity to develop specialist knowledge within an established engineering and manufacturing business.
  • A varied position combining customer contact, technical detail and commercial responsibility.
  • The opportunity to build long-term relationships and become a valued part of the sales and engineering process.

Why this role?

You’ll be joining an established manufacturer where products are designed around individual customer requirements. That means your work will have real substance: understanding specifications, working through materials and costs, supporting the technical team and helping customers move from an initial enquiry to a solution that works for them.

It’s an opportunity to build on your existing technical or commercial experience and develop your knowledge in a specialist engineering environment.
