Alex & Lindsay Xpert

Customer satisfaction is the key to unlocking growth at Xpert Recruitment Solutions

A family run North Staffordshire recruitment business has enjoyed a landmark three years of growth and success under the guidance of experienced recruitment consultant Lindsay Mitchell and her husband Alex Mitchell.

Lindsay took joint ownership of Xpert Recruitment Solutions eight years ago with a determination to pass on her 27 years of experience in the sector to help clients and Staffordshire companies.

Since taking the reins as Managing Director in 2021, the Fenton-based business has enjoyed exceptional levels of success.

Xpert Recruitment Solutions has:

  • Tripled turnover between 2021 and 2024
  • Employed its first apprentice in 2024
  • Won a partnership award from construction company Benx
  • Rapidly grown its industrial and manufacturing recruitment division under the guidance of Operations Director, Alex Mitchell.
  • Moved offices to provide a better environment for staff and visitors and space to grow.
  • Ensured that every job candidate is invited for a face-to-face interview with a members of the company’s six-strong team. There is no recruitment simply from CVs.

Meanwhile, outside of work, both Lindsay and Alex have had their services to youth sport recognised, working tirelessly to get youngsters playing Rugby Union in the Longton area.

The Fenton based company has grown year on year. Xpert Recruitment Solutions prides itself on exceptional levels of service to both companies recruiting staff and jobseekers. The company now has 150 first class reviews from customers.

The award citation from Benx, praising the partnership working with Alex at Xpert, said: “Throughout the year Alex worked closely with Paul Wilkes and Danielle Preston (from Benx) on a variety of recruitment campaigns, providing an excellent service and a selection of strong candidates to the business.”

Typical customer testimonials include:

“I would highly recommend Lindsay for any recruitment needs; she is passionate, charismatic and hardworking. Lindsay spends the time to understand the needs of the business to ensure she can find the right candidate.

“Alongside this she is a fantastic mentor, offering advice and guidance, Lindsay has helped me to develop my own skills within recruitment.
An absolutely wonderful lady.”

And, “From inception to fruition on landing my job, Alex was phenomenal. He would give regular detailed updates, even offered to print some of the stuff I needed to use at the interview absolutely free of charge.“He guided me through the whole process and I would recommend anyone to engage Xpert. They are surely experts and exceptional!!”

Lindsay has put together a six-member team at Xpert, which she leads alongside Alex.

She said: “I wanted to set up an agency where specialist recruitment consultants could use their experience to provide the best possible advice both for companies looking to recruit and job seekers. “I also wanted to create a business with a family ethos. As a sector, recruitment is often perceived as a business where people move on regularly. Conversely, our staff retention rate is high, we work together, sharing our skills to give the best customer experience possible.” “With 50-plus years in recruitment, we have a wealth of pooled knowledge, and we love to share this.

“Xpert has recently recruited our first apprentice which is a commitment to our philosophy of growing talent from the bottom up.“I see it as a major responsibility, but one I cherish, as it allows me to pass forward the knowledge I have gained over my 27 years in recruitment.“Alongside learning new skills, I am committed to instilling values of customer service and other fundamentals, such as a work ethic, developing and passing on transferable skills and knowledge, and more specific skills around supporting companies and job seekers.”

While working alongside Lindsay, and the team, the new apprentice will also study for a Level 2 recruitment qualification.

Lindsay, from Longton, began her career in recruitment in 1997, and was previously and Employment Broker and Team Leader, with Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Xpert work across a wide range of job sectors with specialism in recruiting for manufacturing, industry, commercial and professional services.

Alex Mitchell is a manufacturing and industrial recruitment specialist and Operations Director at Xpert Recruitment Solutions. On joining Xpert, Alex brought with him 20 years’ experience in industry, including leading roles in transportation and logistic management.

Under Lindsay and Alex’s guidance, Xpert Recruitment Solutions moved to offices at Trent House in early 2022.

The open plan office has allowed the team space to grow, while providing an office where they can all work together, as shared knowledge is a key to success.

Lindsay insists that all job seekers should be interviewed face-to-face. The location of Trent House, at the heart of the city and on major bus routes, helps to facilitate this, with all job candidates invited into the office. She explained: “We always aim to get to the heart of the matter – what does a company require and how we can provide the best available candidate.

“This is a hands-on process, always done face-to-face. We take time to get to know the companies we work with and their potential recruits – it is a three-way partnership.“We will not simply put forward a potential employee based on their CV. Alongside providing the best candidates for any job, we always take time to mentor job seekers, ensuring they are taught the skills necessary to succeed at interview.”

At Xpert, better business values mean more fruitful relationships. This leads to partnerships based on trust and has led to business growth.

Outside of the business, both Lindsay and Alex work tirelessly to support children and teenagers who want to play Rugby Union locally. Lindsay is Chairperson for the minis and juniors section at Longton Rugby Club – a trailblazing role for a female in Rugby Union. Meanwhile Alex coaches the sport in schools across North Staffordshire winning acclaim from Staffordshire Rugby Football Union and the award as Longton RUFC Valued Volunteer for the recently concluded 2023/24 season.
